
| Andhra Pradesh Farmer Managed Groundwater Systems (APFAMGS) Project's key premise is behavioral change leading to voluntary self regulation. In seven drought prone districts of Andhra Pradesh, India, thousands of farmers residing in 638 habitations spread over several hundred kilometers have voluntarily taken number of steps to reduce groundwater pumping, for tiding over problem of groundwater depletion.
Launched in July 2003, the APFAMGS project is a partnership with farmers for implementing Demand Side Groundwater Management concept.This project demonstrates an alternative model to the Supply Side approach which calls for spending billions for creating new structures. more..... |

| | APFAMGS conducted a 3 day training to the Officers of Andhra Pradesh State Groundwater Department from 10th to 12th Dec 2008 at Muthyalapadu International Training Campus in Kurnool District. The training was attended by 27 officers. Detailed report on the training with list of participants, session wise notes, field visits and the participants feed back is prepared for use by the Department. | |  | APFAMGS project represented by SAID participated in the exhibition conducted by CRIDA on 30 September 2008 at Gungal. A stall was put up with models, charts and field samples. Farmers from the project explained to the visiting farmers drawn from Ranga Reddy, Mahaboobnagar and Nalgonda district. |

| | The team visited the TST office, BIRDS Nodal Farm and select field areas to interact with the farmers and see the various interventions in the farmers fields.
The team interacted with the Groundwater Management Committee (GMC), Hydrological Unit Network (HUN) and Farmer Water School Representatives.
The team witnessed a presentation on Crop Water Budget Workshop (CWB) and took a gallery walk to see the results of various CWB as well as the demonstration of Farmer Water School Session Models.
The team interacted with the Government Officials at the state and Districts, international agencies working in water related issues as well as attended steering Committee Meeting as Special Invitees.
The Evaluation team was impressed with the overall achievement by the project especially with the participation and overall leadership shown by the women. The team made a draft presentation on their visit at the debriefing session 0n 12th September 2008. The main findings is expected to be finalized by October 2008.
